Usually after 6=8 years of installing an asphalt shingle roof, stains begin to appear. These stains are an algae bloom that grows and gets darker over time. The algae will shorten the life of the roof.

In the past, the common method to remove the discoloration of a stained roof has been to use a highly concentrated bleach solution. While it tends to improve the appearance of the roof, there is a negative impact on shingles. It dries out the asphalt in the shingle. This leads to an early loss of granules on the surface. Bleach can also be damaging to the landscape.

Roof-N-Ready offers an algaecide treatment plan which is better for the shingles and grounds. It focuses on preventing the algae growth rather than removing it. The component that prevents the algae growth is copper and zinc. This plan should be started before there is a staining problem with the roof.
